Banquet (ONE-DAY) and Specialty Banquet Licenses Information

Banquet (ONE-DAY) Licenses

Are you hosting an occasion where alcohol will be served in an unlicensed location or on club premises? You may need a banquet, banquet special event or mixed beverage special event ABC license.

Banquet (also known as one-day) licenses are issued to individuals for private events where alcohol is provided at no charge to guests, such as wedding receptions, retirement parties, etc.
Banquet special event and mixed beverage special event licenses are issued to duly organized, nonprofit corporations and associations raising money for athletic, charitable, educational, political, or religious purposes.
Tasting licenses allow the sale or giving of samples for the purpose of educating the consuming public about alcoholic beverages being tasted.

Specialty Banquet Licenses

Mixed beverage club event licenses authorize a club holding a beer or wine and beer club license to sell and serve mixed beverages for on-premises consumption by club members and their guests in areas approved by the Board on the club premises. A separate license is required for each day of each club event. No more than 12 such licenses may be granted to a club in any calendar year.

Manufacturer's Multi-Day Banquet Special Event licenses authorize a manufacturer of malt beverages or wine, whether licensed in the Commonwealth or not, to obtain a banquet license for a special event as provided in § 4.1-209 upon application to the Board provided that such event is (i) at a place approved by the Board and (ii) conducted for the purposes of featuring and educating the consuming public about malt beverage or wine products. The manufacturer is limited to no more than four banquet licenses for such special events per year. When the event occurs on no more than three consecutive days, it requires only one license and constitutes only one of the manufacturer's four events per year.

The same form may be used to apply for all of the previously-mentioned occasions. For more detailed information, refer to the application itself or contact your local ABC office.
